Acumentrics Ships SOFC UPS to ChevronTexaco

October 02, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Acumentrics Corp. (Westwood, MA) has delivered a fully integrated, rapid-start, solid-oxide fuel cell (SOFC), uninterruptible power supply (UPS) to ChevronTexaco Technology Ventures (Houston, TX) under the terms of a purchase order. Acumentrics supplied the factory-tested, full-on-line, 2kW fuel cell unit based on its proprietary, anode-supported, tubular solid-oxide fuel cell and power electronics technology.

The BB-SOFC™ 2000 was designed for outdoor, 90Vac, broadband backup, and 120Vac telecom and computer backup applications. It operates directly from 7in to 14in of low-pressure natural gas and converts the fuel directly within its array of fuel cell tubes. Both the hydrogen and carbon monoxide produced during the conversion or reformation process allow it to boost the fuel/electricity efficiency over other types of fuel cells that just run from hydrogen. It also does not emit any appreciable noise or emissions of NOx or SOx.
