Tyco Introduces MINIPAK HDE Connector For Demanding Environments

New Products Feb 07, 2008 by Jeff Shepard

Tyco Electronics has introduced its MINIPAK HDE connector, described as the latest high current power module designed to complement the most popular Tyco Electronics’ high-speed backplane connectors including Z-PACK HM-Zd, Z-PACK TinMan and MULTIGIG RT connectors.

Tyco Electronics’ MINIPAK HDE connector is a high current, dual row board-to-board or backplane power module connector that is said to offer long-term reliability in demanding environments. The connector features hot-pluggable power contacts rated at 18A per contact that are sequenced for mate-first-break-last operation.

The MINIPAK HDE housing is a one-piece molded housing designed to allow airflow through the connector to reduce heat build-up. According to the company, the dual row configuration not only gives pcb designers flexibility in terms of power flow, it also offers the additional benefit of occupying half the linear pcb edge space other types of board-to-board power modules occupy.

The MINIPAK HDE connector is available in 7 different sizes and mates with existing Tyco Electronics’ high current vertical receptacles.
