New Products Jun 10, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Tyco Electronics Power Systems (Dallas, TX) unveiled its newest product in the Outdoor Power System (OPS) family, the actively cooled OPS48/400AC, which integrates state-of-the-art, switch-mode, rectifier technology with a high-performance cooling system and streamlined remote control and monitoring.

The OPS48/400AC provides up to 21kW, including redundancy, and operates from a 208Vac to 240Vac nominal input source. The cabinet can house two power shelves equipped with up to eight rectifiers. It also features two battery shelves in a separate compartment, which can house two strings of IR125 VRLA (125Ah) batteries. In addition, users have the option of connecting two five-shelf supplemental battery cabinets for additional battery reserve time.

Tyco’s OPS48/400AC features a high-performance air conditioner, ensuring the equipment inside the electronics and battery compartments remain within the optimum temperature range, and the sealed construction protects the equipment from elements such as dust, water and air pollutants. The air conditioner allows the cabinet to maintain the ideal operation of rectifiers and batteries up to 127 degrees F (53 degrees C) ambient temperature, maximizing rectifier output (no derating) and extending battery life.
