Tracewell Systems Intros RMP VXI Power System

New Products Oct 14, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Tracewell Systems Inc. (Columbus, OH) introduced its Rugged Medium Power (RMP) for the VXI ultra-light chassis, which is for lower-power test systems that still require low weight and high strength. The RMP uses the same lightweight welded laminate construction as the high-power RHP, but is even smaller and lighter at 7U and 31 lbs. Like the 11-slot RHP, the 13-slot design includes a welded bridge, reinforced cardcage for rigidity.

The RMP power system includes an 800 W power module. The fully plugging design provides is located in the rear of the unit for easy access. System airflow is also used to supply additional cooling to the power module. To efficiently manage power, the 13-slot backplane includes high-current DIN connectors.

The high-flow fan module is rear plugging and can produce 320 CFM of airflow at 0.3 in of water board restriction. An RS-485 compatible intelligent monitor system continually tracks fan speeds; VXI dc voltages; inlet and exhaust temperature; and reports current status, operating levels and fault conditions to the host.
