Tracewell Systems Intros RHP VXI Power System

October 14, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Tracewell Systems Inc. (Columbus, OH) introduced its Rugged High Power (RHP) for the VXI ultra-light chassis, which is designed for test systems requiring low weight, high strength, and large amounts of power and cooling.

The 2,150 W distributed VXI power system includes an ac front-end and two dc-dc power modules. The fully plugging design provides load transient response, voltage regulation and fault tolerance, while taking advantage of system airflow to allow operation at extended temperatures. To efficiently manage the amount of power, the 11-slot backplane uses a power distribution scheme and high-current DIN connectors.

The high-flow fan module is also plugging and can produce 450 CFM of airflow at 0.4 in of water board restriction, making the RHP suitable for high-end digital VXI modules. An RS-485 compatible intelligent monitor system continually tracks fan speeds; VXI dc voltages; inlet and exhaust temperature; and reports current status, operating levels and fault conditions to the host.
