Solis Energy Introduces In-Ground AC>DC UPS
Solis Energy introduced its newest product in the Outdoor UPS Series – the In-Ground Ac>DC uninterruptible power supply (UPS). Designed to be installed in the ground, this UPS is suitable for gang switched light poles that typically do not get power during the day and in areas where utility poles are overcrowded or undersized and cannot support an additional attached power source. Also, since the battery enclosure is out of sight, the in-ground UPS is said to be more aesthetically pleasing, and doesn’t detract from decorative street lights that weren’t typically built to support an external power source. Further, underground installation also provides additional insulation against extreme temperatures.
Solis’ In-Ground UPS solution provides 100% back-up power necessary to run critical, low-wattage devices (typically 100W or less), wherever they are located, even where grid-supplied electricity is unavailable. Such critical, low-wattage devices and applications include security/surveillance cameras, WiFi hotspots, WiMax radios, lights, traffic control sensors, and more.
The city of Apopka, Florida, just installed Solis Energy’s In-Ground AC>DC UPS. The UPS powers WiFi network radios that are attached to light poles and decorative lights throughout Apopka. City of Apopka Information Technology Director Don Kahrs commented, "Our street lights are set up as gang switched, meaning they all turn on at the same time, which was only from dusk to dawn. Solis Energy’s in-ground UPS allows us to power the radios on our street lights anytime day or night, which will keep our city’s WiFi network up and running anytime. Also, because the powering units are in-ground, it helps to keep our city beautiful."
An extension of Solis Energy’s AC>DC Outdoor UPS series, the In-Ground AC>DC UPS is well suited as a secondary power source for routine applications or as battery back-up power for short-term emergency needs to maintain vital applications like wireless communications and video surveillance security systems.
Key features of Solis’ In-Ground AC>DC UPS include: truly universal to fit any input. Auto ranging for use with 110 or 220ac power inputs – both U.S. and European standards. Available space in electronics module to add step down transformer to support ac power inputs greater than 265Vac; choice of battery size based on back-up power need. Whether used as a secondary power source for extended power outages or short-term, emergency back-up power, the right size battery is available. Multiple battery packs can be added to extend the backup capacity; flexible power based on requirements. Provides 150W total system power output that can vary based on the recharge time available; sustainable over a wide range of temperatures. Suitable for outdoor use in areas with extreme temperature variations (-4 to 140°F, -20 to 60°C); rugged and reliable NEMA 6P IP67 enclosure. The enclosure is made with a thermoset composite, corrosion resistant construction with NEMA 6P and IP67 protection rating; versatile. Available in 12 and 24V models: DC-UPS 12120 and DC-UPS 24120.
