SMK Develops New Five-in-One Card Connector

SMK Corp. (Japan) has developed a "five-in-one card connector" that is compatible with seven types of memory cards, including the Memory Stick, the SD Memory Card, the MultiMediaCard, the Smart Media (3.3 V), the Compact Flash (Type 1/Type 2) and the Microdrive. It is designed to suit digital cameras, notebook PCs, printers, card readers, desktop PCs and PC peripherals.

With a voltage and current rating of 5 V, 0.5 A ac-dc, the device features a contact resistance of 100 milliohms, an insulation resistance of 1,000 Mohms, a withstanding voltage of 500 Vac for 1 min, and a life span of 10,000 cycles. The operating temperature range is from -40 °C to +85 °C, and matching PWB thickness is 1.6 mm.
