Sipex Intros SP6213 LDO Voltage Regulator

March 03, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Sipex Corp. (Billerica, MA) announced the immediate availability of its new SP6213, claimed to be the industry’s smallest 100mA LDO regulator for hand-held, battery-powered peripherals such as PDAs, digital cordless phones, digital still cameras and MP3 players.

The SP6213, a CMOS LDO regulator, sources the highest level of current in the smallest available package. It is capable of delivering up to 100mA, at 2.7V, 2.85V, 3.0V, 3.3V or 5V in either the thermally enhanced four-pin SC-70 or the industry-standard three-and five-pin versions. It has a 2.5 percent output-voltage accuracy, a low dropout of 250mV at 100mA, and a modest quiescent current of 135µA at full load. Other features include an ENABLE/shutdown pin, and full fault protection for over-current and thermal runaway conditions.

The SP6213 is currently available in industry-standard three- and five-pin SC-70 packages and in the thermally enhanced four-pin SC-70. The three- and five-pin versions are $0.29 each in 10,000-piece quantities, and the thermally enhanced four-pin part is $0.42.
