Sipex Announces Low-Voltage RS232 Transceiver

June 24, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Sipex Corp. (Milpitas, CA) introduced the SP3281EB, the newest RS232 transceiver added to Sipex’s interface product family. With five drivers, three receivers and a minimum data rate of 250Kbps, the SP3281 is suitable for cell phones, PDAs, data cables, notebooks, laptop computers and other portable applications. The device’s enhanced ESD protection on all I/O pins protects the device to ±15kV using Human Body Model and ±8kV using IEC 1000-4-2 Contact Discharge.

The SP3281 operates from a single +2.35V to 5.5V supply voltage, with full RS232 compliance down to 3.1V and RS232-compatible performance down to +2.35V. Its wide supply voltage operation allows the device to be powered directly off of a lithium-ion battery, thus eliminating the need for a voltage regulator.

The SP3281 is offered in 28-pin TSSOP and SSOP packages. It is available now and is priced at $2 in 1,000-piece quantities.
