Semtech Presents MicroClamp? TVS Family Expansion

August 04, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Semtech Corp. (Camarillo, CA), a producer of analog and mixed-signal semiconductors, announced the expansion of its MicroClamp? family of ultra-small transient voltage suppressors (TVS). Three new multi-line devices provide protection of critical circuits in cell phones, PDAs, digital music players and other portable electronic devices from electrostatic discharge (ESD).

The new MicroClamp devices include the µClamp?0504A with protection for up to four uni-directional lines, the µClamp0505A with protection for up to five uni-directional lines or four bi-directional lines, and the µClamp0506A with protection for up to five bi-directional lines.

With a 1.7 mm x 1.7 mm x 0.6 mm, six-lead SC-89 (SOT-666) package, the MicroClamp devices occupy roughly half as much board space as competing solutions in industry-standard SC-70 packages. Each MicroClamp TVS offers ESD protection in excess of ±8 kV contact, ±15 kV air per IEC 61000-4-2 level 4 requirements.

The MicroClamp multi-line products are now available in production quantities. Pricing for the µClamp0504A is $0.25 each, the µClamp0505A is $0.26 each, and the µClamp0506A is $0.28 each, all in 1,000-piece lots.
