Recom Unveils 30 W Ultra-Slim 2U AC-DC DIN-Rail Power Supply
A new 2U step-shape AC-DC power module pushes physical boundaries to enhance distribution board density and streamline low-power system installations.
Recom has introduced a 30 W AC-DC module within its REFIN DIN-rail power supply family, which the company says marks a significant advancement for space-constrained flat-panel distribution boards. The primary feature of the new REFIN2U-S30 is its ultra-slim 2U-width step-shape design, allowing engineers to integrate reliable power into compact home and building automation systems.
Traditional low-power modules often consume unnecessary cabinet real estate. Pushing this step-shape form factor to lower-power applications is expected to allow automation manufacturers and control panel builders to extract greater performance from existing enclosure footprints while standardizing their mechanical platforms.

Operating within constrained distribution boards directly impacts the layout and wiring considerations of the system. By scaling the REFIN2U portfolio down to 30 W in the exact same mechanical platform as its 90 W predecessor, the device delivers robust continuous power without increasing the overall physical size of the automation system.
Wide Input Range and Adjustable Output
In addition to its compact dimensions (93.5 x 35.5 x 58.5 mm), the module introduces a highly versatile electrical profile. The REFIN2U-S30 accepts a wide AC input voltage range of 85 VAC to 305 VAC, catering to diverse global power grids and mitigating the effects of fluctuating input voltages.
The power supply is available in two output configurations: a 12 VDC version adjustable between 10.8 V and 13.2 V, and a 24 VDC version adjustable from 21.6 V to 26.4 V. This adjustability ensures reliable performance across different load requirements. The module achieves a typical efficiency of up to 90 percent, translating directly into reduced thermal dissipation, while its no-load power consumption remains below 100 mW, boosting overall energy efficiency in always-on applications.
Recom says that the introduction of the REFIN2U-S30 broadens the REFIN2U portfolio within a common mechanical platform. This enables system designers to scale across different power levels while maintaining the same compact 2U form factor and installation concept. More information is available in the REFIN2U-S30 data sheet.

Streamlining Installation and Wiring Demands
The capacity to tolerate tight spaces alters the design trade-offs associated with cabinet wiring and mounting. Because the power module features a standardized 36 mm (2U) width, the constraints placed on DIN-rail real estate are relaxed.
Engineers can optimize the installation process employing the unit's spring-loaded push-in terminals, which accommodate both solid and stranded wires. This allows for rapid, tool-less connections without the need for traditional wire ferrules, which directly lowers total assembly time and reduces overall system costs.
Reducing the dependency on standard DIN rails has a positive effect on mounting flexibility. The REFIN2U-S30 includes rear mounting flaps, enabling users to install the unit directly onto a back panel in any orientation. By mitigating strict mounting requirements, electrical designers can utilize valuable structural space within unconventional or low-profile enclosures.
Robust Protection for Harsh Environments
This mechanical flexibility also opens up new possibilities for system deployment in demanding environments. The REFIN2U-S30 provides its full 30 W of continuous power across a wide global temperature range of -40°C to +55°C, and can continue operating reliably at ambient temperatures up to +90°C with appropriate output derating.
The power supply includes comprehensive, built-in safeguards such as short-circuit, over-current, and over-voltage protection with hiccup mode and automatic recovery. The module features reinforced insulation providing 4 kVAC isolation between the input and output.
The device is rated for Overvoltage Category (OVC) III operation at altitudes up to 3,000 meters, and OVC II operation up to 5,000 meters. It complies with EN IEC 61204-3 Class B and EN55032 Class B EMC requirements and is classified as a Limited Power Source (LPS) under UL/IEC/EN 62368-1 safety standards.
Looking forward, this hardware is well suited for building automation, industrial control systems, and smart home distribution networks looking to maximize power density while shedding excess installation complexity.
