Qualcomm Presents PM6650 Power Management IC
Qualcomm Inc. (San Diego, CA) announced the availability of the PM6650 power management chip for 3G CDMA terminals. The device is the first member of the company's powerOne family of advanced power management chips and interfaces directly to the company's Mobile Station Modem baseband processors such as the MSM6250 and MSM6500 chipsets.
The IC provides battery management; charging functions, including a USB charging option; voltage regulation for the various MSM power requirements; Qualcomm's radioOne RF chips; and various other MSM-supported peripheral features designed for 3G wireless products. It also features a speaker driver with programmable volume control, turn-on time, and muting for driving an external 8-ohm speaker. Other features include on-chip thermal control system for over-temperature protection and configurable multi-purpose pins for digital or analog I/O utility functions such as general-purpose LED drivers, programmable resistors or digital switches.
The PM6650 also performs linear voltage regulation for peripherals and switch-mode power supply voltage generation for white LEDs used for color LCD backlighting.
