Powerstax Debuts F351 Series DC-DC Converters

October 09, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Powerstax plc (formerly Advanced Power Conversion plc, Farnborough, England) debuted a new range of high-power dc-dc converters, the F351 Series, which are developed from the company's patented IFB3 topology used on the F501 500 W full-brick dc-dc converters. The new F351 delivers 350 W of power from a nominal 12 V input range (11 V to 18 V), as well as a wide range of standard output voltages, including 12 Vdc, 24 Vdc, 28 Vdc, 42 Vdc, 48 Vdc, and 56.2 Vdc. The F351 converters are suitable for battery backup, telecom, automotive and transportation, industrial control, distributed power architecture, and intermediate bus architecture applications. The unique topology also allows Powerstax to provide a series of high-power (up to 30 A) STEP-UP conversion modules.

The industry-standard, full-brick size package measures 116.8 mm x 61 mm x 12.7 mm (4.2 in x 2.4 in x 0.5 in) and has a comprehensive range of features and functions, including single-wire connection, automatic current sharing, parallel connectivity for true N+1 redundancy, a high typical efficiency of 87 percent, and an extended operating temperature range of -20 ºC to +100 ºC with no derating above 85 ºC that minimizes power dissipation and simplifies thermal management. The versatility of the F351 is enhanced by a full range of in-built protection functions such as over-voltage, under-voltage, and short-circuit protection complemented by remote shutdown, thermal monitoring voltage, and fixed-frequency operation with external synchronization features.

Available now, the F351 Series is fully isolated, with low input and output ripple, adjustable output voltage, and is designed to meet EN60950 and the CE mark requirements. Powerstax also offers design and development of non-standard and custom solutions from its own ISO9001 in-house facilities for applications not met by the standard range of F351 modules.
