Powerex Intros High-Voltage Intelligent Power Module

Powerex Inc. (Youngwood, PA) introduced its new high-voltage, intelligent power module (HVIPM), which combines gate drive and protection circuitry with a 3,300V/1,200A high-voltage IGBT (HVIGBT) in a fully isolated package. Applications include high-power converters and inverters, medium-voltage drives, and traction drives.

The saturation voltage of the new HVIPM is reduced by 7.5 percent while maintaining the high short-circuit withstanding capability. The new HVIPM is rated at 1,200A and 3,300V and provides control circuit and protection circuitry for over-current, short-circuit and over-temperature; a low Vce (sat) 7.5 percent reduction versus HVIGBT; and an optimized isolation design to satisfy 6kVac.
