Power-One Introduces 20A Digital POL Converters For Server & Communications Applications
Power-One, Inc. announced two new digital point-of-load (POL) converters, the ZY2120 and ZY8120, in its ZY2000 "No-Bus™" and ZY8000 "bus-programmable" series, respectively. These Z-One® digital POL converters with latest-generation topologies provide 20A and up to 93% efficiency for server and communications applications, augmenting the high-current-density models introduced previously in these series.
Like all Z-One POLs, these products seamlessly integrate power management and conversion to significantly reduce design time, board-level parts count, improve power-system performance, and enable industry-leading power-management functionalities.
Additional features include: wide input ranges (8 – 14V) combined with user-defined outputs (0.5-5.5V) reduce the number of model numbers in inventory; 0 to 70°C operating range with what is described as best-in-class elevated-temperature performance; extremely-scalable architecture manages up to 32 components, including up to 4 analog devices; and high-power-density, low-profile form factors designed for space-critical blade server and communications applications.
The ZY2120 No-Bus POL is hardware configured via pin strapping and trim components. It supports power management without the cost and complexity of third-party controllers and communications-bus interfaces; which the company says is enabling power management with no additional cost or space requirements when compared to analog "conversion only" solutions.
The ZY8120 POL can be programmed via an industry-standard I²C bus, or a wizard-driven graphics user interface (GUI). When used with ZM7300 series digital power managers, it facilitates the complete elimination of external components for sequencing, tracking, protections, monitoring, and reporting.
