New Products Oct 27, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Royal Philips Electronics (Eindhoven, the Netherlands) announced a new semiconductor converter that integrates five component functionalities for a single-phase dc/dc synchronous buck converter in a single package. The PIP250M chip provides a board space savings of 20 to 30 percent and has the ability to convert 5V to between 1V and 3.3V, offering power density for 7A to 15A applications such as telecommunications, data communications and enterprise computing.

Based on Philips’ TrenchMOS semiconductor technology, the PIP250M chip is an expansion of Philips’ powertrain portfolio. The device incorporates pulse-width modulation control, drivers, a control FET, a Sync FET and a parallel schottky diode in a single ready-made device. The PIP250M is suitable for integration into new systems as it provides ease-of-use and design simplification, resulting in a quicker time to market.

The PIP250M is currently in volume production. The PIP250M is priced at $4.95 per unit in quantities of 10,000 pieces.
