Online Simulation Platform with Real Lab Data Adds Full Range of Components
Würth Elektronik eiSos extended its free online design tool REDEXPERT. The simulation software has become renowned as the most precise option for ac-loss calculation in switch mode power supplies. REDEXPERT now supports calculations for an entire range of other components including LEDs for horticultural applications, wireless modules, photodiodes, and foil capacitors. The properties of the components can be predicted under different operating conditions using stored data.
Uniquely REDEXPERT can make the calculations based on the basis of real measured laboratory data. So instead of simulating results based on minimums, maximums and nominal values, designers can get the nuances of variation between the minimum and maximum value for a given component based on the operating conditions.
Würth Elektronik eiSos says REDEXPERT relieves developers from having to do much of the mathematical calculating and simulating involved with qualifying components.
Taking dc foil capacitors as an example, all the graphs required for a powerful design analysis are available. These graphs are based on the measurement data ∆CvsF, ZvsF, ESRvsF.
The newly integrated "Horticulator" enables the design of individual lighting recipes with horticulture LEDs. Starting with information on the number of LEDs used, the input current and the input connection temperature, REDEXPERT can calculate the full spectra, photosynthetic photon flux (PPF) and wavelength color ratios among others emission characteristics.
Measured Data Instead of Datasheet
REDEXPERT offers the tremendous advantage that developers can base their selection of components on characteristics acquired via experimentation rather than calculations based solely on the specifications in the datasheet.
For example, REDEXPERT now covers the photodiodes and phototransistors from Würth Elektronik eiSos. They are represented by curves of the viewing angle, spectral sensitivity, irradiance, and emitter-collector.
It offers an extremely useful tool for the development of wireless solutions, the "Range Estimator". The Range Estimator function can calculate distance ranges based on a given data rate and link budget.
