Micro Bricks Deliver up to 300W

November 06, 2014 by Power Pulse1595211359

Glary Power Technology (GPT) will be introducing three new series of micro brick dc-dc converters during next week’s Electronica trade fair in Munich, Germany. The new products will include the U08 eighth-brick family that delivers up to 300W, the U16 sixteenth-brick 168W high efficiency high power density dc/dc power modules, and the U32 Micro-bricks that put up to 120W regulated power onto 0.91" x 0.91" footprint with reduced 0.37 inch of total height.

GPT has again utilized its patented “Buck-reset Forward” topology to re-defined regulated dc-dc converter’s power density capability in the latest released U08 Eighth-brick. Unlike some traditional design to ignore the input line below 40V or left the output as unregulated, the U08 power module is designed for continuously delivering full power over the entire 36- to 75-Vdc input range with more than 94.5% of conversion efficiency. The U08 power module outputs 12V/25A in low profile package, which reaches 300W/in3 of power density and reducing the shadow effect of forced-air cooling to help system designers saving the space for the power circuit area in the majority of the current application boards. A rating reduced version delivers 12V/21A can even work with low speed air-follow without base-plate and additional heat-sink.

The U08 Eighth-brick works in a wide operating temperature range of -40 +110 degrees C and MTBF as high as 4.8M hours at 25 degrees C featuring a remote ON/OFF control and capable for trimming the output voltage within +/-10% ranges. It can withstand 1.5KVdc isolation voltage between primary to secondary, compliance to ROHS as well as the design meeting the international safety standards including EN60950 and CSA/UL60950. Full protection functions such as OVP, OTP, OCP, SCP, input and UVLO are all embedded.

GPT’s U16 sixteenth-brick 168W high-efficiency high power density dc-dc power module offers 12V/14A outputs. The U16 power module demonstrates more than 5×10^6 hrs MTBF, 405W/in3 power density and up to 94% of full load-conversion efficiency, as well as a 0.35 inches height.

The record breaking high power density of U16 power module and its outstanding MTBF characteristic are all thanks to the low part counts circuit design, which is about 50% part-counts compared with other products with similar power rating in the market. The patented "Buck-reset Forward" topology with efficient power stage design reduces the total power loss, resulting in more delivered power with higher conversion efficiency, which generates heat much less than others and further guarantees its capability of delivering rated current across the 36V to 75V input-voltage range with -40 to +115 degrees C of module temperature range.

The module features a 1.5KVdc isolation rating between primary to secondary, and it is designed to meet international safety standards, including EN60950 and CSA/UL60950, as well as to provide full protection functions such as over-voltage and over-temperature protection, and input under-voltage lockout. It offers the output-voltage trim facility that enables the output to be adjusted between 90% and 110% of nominal.

GPT has again pushed high the performance with its patented “Buck-reset Forward” topology to re-defined regulated dc/dc converter’s power density capability in the released U32 Micro-bricks. By putting maximum 120W regulated power onto 0.91” x 0.91” footprint with reduced 0.37 inch of total height, U32 Micro-brick provides 94% of conversion efficiency with 400W/in3 of power density to help system designers with up to 50% of space saving for the power circuit area in the majority of the current application boards.

The coverage of U32 Micro-brick for regulated output voltage contains from 12V down to 2.5V, and for an output current up to 30Amps, with input voltage coverage of 36- to 75-Vdc. Combining the advanced low part count circuit design and the inherently high efficiency capability of patented Buck-reset topology, the U32 Micro-brick performs superior conversion performance in a wide operating temperature range of -40 to +110 degrees with a 6.2M hours of MTBF at 25 degrees C.

U32 Micro-brick features a 1.5KVdc isolation rating between primary to secondary, and it is designed to meet international safety standards, including EN60950 and CSA/UL60950, as well as to provide full protection functions such as OVP and OTP, and input UVLO. It offers the output-voltage trim facility that enables the output to be adjusted between 90% and 110% of nominal.

U32 Micro-brick is priced for OEM quantities starting at USD 22 each with standard lead-time of 6 to 8 weeks. U08 Eighth-brick is priced for OEM quantities starting at USD35 each with standard lead-time of 6 to 8 weeks. The U16 is available now, for OEM quantities starting at USD 25 each with standard lead-time of 6 to 8 weeks.
