Micrel Launches New MIC2207 PWM Buck Regulator

July 05, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Micrel Inc. (San Jose, CA) launched its new MIC2207, a 3 mm x 3 mm MLF™, 2 MHz/3 A pulse-width modulated (PWM) buck regulator, which offers a small footprint and is aimed at applications requiring up to 3 A output from 5 V and 3 V rails. The MIC2207 is suitable for applications in the telecom/networking equipment, server, and consumer electronics markets.

The MIC2207 features an ultra-fast operation and a proprietary internal compensation. A low-resistance integrated p-channel MOSFET allows the chip to deliver up to 3 A with more than 94% efficiency. The output voltage can be adjusted down to 1 V, and can operate with a maximum duty cycle of 100% for use in low-dropout conditions. The P-MOSFET also eliminates the need for a sense resistor to provide a current limit, reducing the need for external components.

The MIC2207 IC is available in volume, and pricing starts at $1.90 for 1,000-unit quantities.
