Mean Well Introduces 100W Enclosed Type DC-DC Converter for Railway Application

New Products Apr 21, 2011 by Jeff Shepard

Mean Well introduced the second generation of 100W enclosed type single output dc-dc converter, the RSD-100 series, to fulfill the various requirements of vehicle applications. With the launch of the first railway dc-dc converter with EN50155 railway certificate compliance, the company has formally entered into the railway power supply market. Featuring a 2:1 (±40%) wide input range and 4000Vdc input/output isolation, the RSD-100 series are characterized by 5G anti-vibration ability, wide-range working temperature of -40 – +70°, protections for short circuit, overload, output over voltage, and input reverse polarity, as well as built-in constant current limiting circuit and 36mm low profile (1U compliance).

With up to date high efficiency circuit design, RSD-100 series possess up to 91% efficiency. All series are semi-encapsulated for PCB protection to provide anti-moisture, anti-dust, heat dissipation as well as anti-vibration features. Therefore, they can be cooled without any forced-air but still can work between -40 to +70° ambient temperature, which are well suited for applications for harsh environments with high ambient temperature, high dust and moisture. The design of these new converters meets ITE standards (IEC60950-1 and EN55022) and also comply with railway certificates (EN50155, IEC60571, IEC61373, EN50121-3-2), so they are suitable to be used in all kinds of vehicles that are equipped with a dc power source. The applications include railway, metro rapid transit system, subway, bus, leisure trailer, and vessel...etc. In addition, along with external batteries as the energy source, they are also suitable for harsh industrial installations effected by dust and moisture, such as security system, DC UPS system, and telecom equipment.
