Maxim Introduces High-Voltage, Low-Power Linear Regulators for Automotive Applications

November 28, 2006 by Jeff Shepard

Maxim Integrated Products Inc. introduced the MAX6765 and MAX6774 high-voltage, low-power linear regulators that can deliver up to 100mA of output current, which is suitable for automotive and industrial applications. These low-power devices operate from 4 to 72V and consume only 31µA of quiescent current, making them suitable for always-on applications such as automotive modules.

The MAX6765 and MAX6774 are offered with a 1.5% accurate, fixed-output voltage of 5.0, 3.3, 2.5, or 1.8V. Additionally, two external resistors enable the output voltage to be adjusted externally from 1.8 to 11V. Each device offers an internal reset circuit that asserts whenever the monitored output voltage falls below its respective threshold. When the output voltage exceeds its reset threshold, the device de-asserts after the reset timeout period. Reset timeout are offered with fixed timeout options of 75, 3, 12.5, 50, or 200µs or can be adjusted externally with a capacitor. The MAX6765/MAX6767/MAX6769/MAX6771/MAX6773 are offered with an open-drain reset output, while the MAX6766/MAX6768/MAX6770/MAX6772/MAX6774 have a push-pull reset output.

These linear regulators also offer an enable and hold circuit (MAX6767/MAX6768), an adjustable reset input (MAX6769/MAX6770), dual enable inputs (MAX6771/MAX6772), and a watchdog timer (MAX6773/MAX6774). Additionally, all of these devices provide thermal and short-circuit protection.

The MAX6765-MAX6774 are offered in a space-saving, thermally enhanced, 3mm x 3mm TDFN package and are fully specified from -40 to +125°. Prices start at $0.86 (1000-up, FOB USA).
