Lambda Unveils New AC Input Power Supply

November 19, 2006 by Jeff Shepard

Lambda unveiled its PFE series of brick-style universal ac input power supply modules for industrial, datacom and telecom applications is a space saving solution to standard two-module ac-dc-with-dc-dc designs. They are rated for +100°C base plate temperatures, thus eliminating cooling design costs for systems that are generally specified to run at rated power at +85°C or below.

The compact PFE series includes active power-factor-correction, regulation, and primary secondary isolation, touting up to 50% space savings over previous products. The fully regulated PFE 500W models are available in 12, 28 and 48V nominal outputs and can be adjusted over a ±20% range. The 12V PFE500 delivers 396W with a maximum base plate temperature of +85°C, while the 28 and 48V models provide 504W at +100°C. Line and load regulation is 0.4%.

The semi-regulated PFE700-48, due for release in January, can deliver 714W at 51V (nominal) for applications as an intermediate bus converter that powers regulated multiple-output dc-dc converters. Maximum base plate temperature is +100°C, with power output derated linearly to 85% load above +85°C. All models have over-voltage, over-current and over-temperature protection. The supplies are safety-approved to UL60950-1, CSA60950-1 (C-UL) and EN60950-1. All units are RoHS-compliant and carry the CE mark.

The PFE-500 series, measuring 4.6-by-2.4-by-0.5-inches, can be cooled utilizing a cold-plate or an optional heat-sink, is priced at $185 each in 100-unit quantities.
