Intersil Unleashes ISL6721 Telecom Power IC
Intersil Corp. (Milpitas, CA) announced the ISL6721 single-ended, current-mode, pulse-width modulated controller, which is designed to regulate power in telecom, datacom and Power-over-Ethernet (802.3af) systems. It also has numerous applications in industrial power supplies. The ISL6721 is suitable for both 48V datacom and 36V to 72V telecom applications. It is designed for a wide range of dc/dc conversion topologies, including flyback, forward and boost configurations.
Peak current-mode control handles power transients and provides inherent over-current protection. Other features include a low-power mode where the supply current drops to less than 200µA during over-voltage and over-current shutdown faults. The advanced BiCMOS design features a low operating current, an adjustable operating frequency up to 1MHz, adjustable soft-start, and a bi-directional SYNC signal that allows the oscillator to be locked to an external clock or other controller ICs for noise sensitive applications.
The ISL6721AB in the SOIC package and the ISL6721AV in the TSSOP package are available now. The suggested resale price for each IC in 1,000-unit quantities is $1.49 for the ISL6721AB and $1.59 for the ISL6721AV. The ISL6721EVAL1 demo platform is available to simplify evaluation of the ISL6721.
