November 07, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Intersil Corp. (Milpitas, CA) announced a new family of LINEARLINK™ BiCMOS, 5 V powered, single transceivers that meet both the RS-485 and RS-422 standards for balanced (differential) communication that are typically deployed for long-distance transmission and/or in noisy environments.

The ISL83080E through ISL83088E family of transceivers boast several feature enhancements over the current portfolio, including a full fail-safe design, hot-swap capability, a fractional unit load to the RS-485 bus, three data rate options and greater than 15 kV human body model ESD protection.

The ISL83080E through ISL83088E transceivers are available now in eight-lead, mini small-outline plastic packages (MSOP) and eight-lead and 14-lead, small-outline plastic packages (SOIC). The suggested resale price in 1,000-unit quantities is $1.26 for each device. Devices are also available on tape and reel.
