HiTek Power Unveils HF-12 Power Supply

August 11, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

HiTek Power Corp. (Santee, CA) has added a 1,200W model to its HiFlex family of configurable modular ac/dc power systems, the new HF-12 power supply, which can be quickly assembled to provide unlimited output combinations, giving designers a level of reliability and flexibility that eliminates the engineering costs and long lead times associated with custom power supplies.

The HF-12 is available in both an industrial version with screw terminals and a hot-plug version with Positronic connectors. It includes up to six low-current or high-current output modules and provides up to 19 outputs, with no minimum load requirements. A built-in OR-ing circuitry enables redundant operation between each module, and its proprietary design saves a minimum of 15W of power per high-current module. The 200W output modules include the integrated isolation circuitry and single-wire active current sharing necessary for N+1 hot-plug systems, which allows the HF-12 to be packaged in an 11.93in x 6in x 3.37in fan-cooled enclosure.

The HF-12 has a power rating of 850W to 900W through the full range 85Vac to 264Vac input and 1,200W with 220Vac input. The power-factor-correction (PFC) input circuitry accepts a voltage in the range of 85Vac to 264Vac with active PFC to 0.99, and the dc/dc single-output or multiple-output modules can occupy any of the chassis' six slots. The HF-12 also incorporates a built-in, isolated, standby output of 5V at 0.3A for system control logic use.

The HiFlex HF-12 modular power supply is priced at $0.50 per watt, in production quantities, and comes with a one-year warranty. Availability is stock to eight weeks.
