HiTek Power Adds HF-16 to Its HiFlex Series

September 23, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

HiTek Power (Santee, CA) has added a 1,000W/1,600W model to its popular HiFlex Series, the HF-16, a configurable, modular

ac/dc power system that can be quickly assembled to meet custom output

specifications.

Available in both hot-plug and industrial models, the new power supply includes seven high-current output modules and features a redundant operation between each module. This enables easy configuration that supports a variety of applications, such as telecommunications, computer peripherals, process control, thermal printers, office automation, and medical and industrial equipment.

The HF-16 has a power rating of 1,000W with 90Vac to 264Vac input and 1,600W with 220Vac input. The power supply provides up to 25 outputs, with no minimum load requirements, and affords unlimited output combinations. Additionally, the chassis has eight slots, one of which takes a single ac input module that accepts a voltage in the range of 85Vac to 264Vac, with active power-factor correction to 0.99 percent. The remaining slots can be occupied by dc/dc single- or multiple-output modules. The power supply also incorporates a built-in

isolated standby output of 5V at 0.3A for system control logic use.

A major benefit is the HF-16's built-in current-sharing system; a proprietary design saves a minimum of 15W of power per module, compared to conventional OR-ing techniques. Moreover, the 200W output modules include the integrated isolation circuitry and single-wire active current sharing necessary for N+1 hot-plug systems; this high-efficiency design

allows the HF-16 to be packaged in a 2.5in x 8in x 11in fan-cooled enclosure.

The HiFlex HF-16 modular power supply is priced at $675, in production quantities, and comes with a one-year warranty. Availability is stock to eight weeks.
