HiTek Intros HiGen 50 X-Ray Generator Power Supply

January 18, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

HiTek Power Corp. (Santee, CA) has added a new member to its HiGen family of X-ray generator power supplies, a compact, 50W unit designed to serve as a component power supply in analytical X-ray systems and low-energy radiography applications. The new HiGen 50 is among the first power supplies developed under HiTek's "core engine" strategy, which combines high-voltage technologies in different combinations to provide semi-custom supplies for specialized markets and enable an optimal solution, reduced time to market and lower engineering costs.

The HiGen 50 features an integrated ac mains input, avoiding the problems of poor regulation and induced noise that units relying on the system's low-voltage power bus can experience. It also incorporates a ground-referenced filament supply in a package measuring 10.6in x 5.9in x 4.1in (269mm x 150mm x 105mm).

Output voltage and current are a maximum 50kV and 1mA, respectively, and their very high stability is rated at ±0.01%/8h after 30 minutes. Output ripple is a low 0.1% peak-to-peak of rated output voltage. In addition, a low stored energy of 3.3J helps protect the X-ray tube in arc conditions. The power supply is CE marked and meets all other international safety and emission specifications.

The HiGen 50 X-ray generator power supply comes with a one-year warranty and is priced, in production quantities, at $1,250. Availability is stock to 8 to 10 weeks.
