High-Rel Low-Voltage Zeners for Defense, Aerospace, Industrial and Medical Use

November 18, 2013 by Jeff Shepard

Microsemi Corporation today announced a new family of 1-2.4 volt (V) Zener diodes that provide up to 4x better voltage regulation and up to a 40x improvement in typical lower leakage current versus standard Zener diodes. The new high-reliability, ultra-sharp knee diode devices are targeted at low-voltage regulation and transient protection applications in the defense, aerospace, industrial and medical markets.

The low-capacitance and low-leakage ratings also make the new diodes ideal for high-speed and frequency electro static discharge (ESD) applications and portable applications to ensure longer battery life. In addition, the Zener diodes can be used for certain transient voltage protection (TVS) applications requiring low impedance and low voltage.

"Microsemi leveraged it extensive expertise in high-reliability products to deliver a new solution that fills the need for lower impedance, better voltage regulation and lower leakage Zener diodes," said Durga Peddireddy, director of marketing for Microsemi's High-Reliability Products group. "We have plans to broaden this category with different package and voltage options. High-reliability is a key area of focus for Microsemi, and we continue to drive new product developments for this strategic market segment."

Microsemi's new diodes are offered in a ruggedized, hermetically sealed, surface mount UB package designed to withstand adverse operating conditions such as shock and vibration. These diodes are also screened to meet JANTXV equivalent specifications to further ensure reliable operation in harsh conditions. Environmentally friendly and RoHS compliant versions are also available.

Product Information includes: Part numbers: SLZ1.0A thru SZL2.4A; Voltage : 1V to 2.4V; Current : Test current of 250 microamps (uA) and maximum surge current of 25 amps (A); Reverse Leakage Current: less than 50 nanoamperes (nA); and ESD and EFT protection per IEC 61000-42 and IEC 61000-4-4.
