GE Energy Delivers New Open Frame Power Supply

New Products Jan 24, 2012 by Jeff Shepard

GE Energy announced the 200W CLP0212 open frame power supply. In a 2 x 4 inch footprint smaller than an iPhone®, the 12Vdc single-output supply delivers 80 PLUS Gold energy efficiency. Half the size of other power supplies in this segment, the CLP series is specifically designed to handle power challenges associated with tight space and low airflow. The new power supply offers leading 18W/in³ power density in a 1U high, fan-less form factor to address a broad range of applications in new products from communications, computing and data storage original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

"We’re offering OEMs a small, cost-effective, energy-efficient power supply that leads the industry in power density while helping to lower utility bills and cooling requirements," said Jeff Schnitzer, president of GE Energy’s Power Electronics business. "We’re happy to see quick adoption in next-generation broadband router/modem, network attached storage, wireless access point and set-top box devices that enable anywhere, anytime access to digital content."

As part of the GE Energy Total Efficiency™ architecture, the new CLP series delivers greater than 90 percent typical power efficiency and full load output at 50°C (122°F) with limited current de-rating at higher temperatures. The CLP series utilizes unique designs for combined feedback of zero voltage switching through line load control and quasi-resonant power factor correction (PFC) circuits while also optimizing transformer geometry and switching frequency. Input range is 90-265Vac with 12ms hold up time, 100 kHz switching frequency, narrow 15 kHz frequency band and active PFC. Protection features include over-current, over-voltage and over-temperature. Fault tolerance capabilities deliver N+1 redundancy for high-availability requirements. No load power consumption is less than 0.5W. Certifications include FCC Class A, CE, CSA, TUV and UL.

Available immediately, the CLP0212 pricing starts at $36 per unit for OEM quantities.
