Fujitsu Releases FTR-K3 Slim Power Relay

New Products Jun 06, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Fujitsu Components America Inc. (Sunnyvale, CA) released a 20 A power relay that is targeted primarily to OEMs developing commercial and industrial products. The FTR-K3 is a 1Make (1 Form A) relay that has a nominal operating power of 780 mW, which is the lowest power consumption in this class. Rated for a maximum load of 20 A at 250 Vac, it is suited for switching compressor and inverter loads in air conditioners, refrigerators and other major appliances, as well as for use in office equipment.

The FTR-K3 has an operating temperature range of -40 °C to +60 °C. Dimensions of the slim-type relay are 30.1 mm x 15.7 mm x 23.3 mm. The FTR-K3 relay features an 8 mm clearance distance and a minimum 9.5 mm creepage distance between coil and contacts for high-insulation resistance. It also has a surge withstand voltage of 8,500 V (minimum), 1.2 µsec x 50 µsec, features a 1,000 V dielectric strength between contacts, and 5,000 V dielectric strength between coil to contact. The relay’s expected mechanical life is rated at two million operations. It has an electrical life of 100,000 operations at rated load (20 A, 250 Vac, Cos Phi 1).

The FTR-K3 meets UL, CSA, VDE (pending now) and CQC agency approvals. It uses UL94 flame class V-0 and UL CTI level class 2 plastics, and is constructed of lead-free materials and cadmium-free contacts to meet international environmental requirements. The FTR-K3 Series is available in the second-half of 2004 with #250 TAB and PCB terminals in 5 Vdc, 6 Vdc, 9 Vdc, 12 Vdc, 18 Vdc and 24 Vdc coil voltages. Samples are available immediately. A FTR-K3 with a 12 Vdc coil is priced at $1.10 each in 100,000 pieces. Delivery is 12 weeks.
