Excelsys Unveils Xmite Family of Medical Power Supplies

New Products Sep 05, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Excelsys Technologies Ltd. (Dublin, Ireland) unveiled its new Xmite family of medically approved, field-configurable, 200 W to 600 W modular power supplies, which consist of a front-end chassis that mates with up to four output modules. The output modules offer single and dual outputs ranging from 1.5 Vdc to 58 Vdc, and up to 50 A. A combination of DIP switches and trim pots define output settings, allowing users to configure requirements in the field while maintaining all safety approvals (UL/cUL60601-1, EN60601-1, and CE Mark).

The new power supplies measure 10.25 in x 3.50 in x 1.59 in, offering 200 W, 400 W, and 600 W of output power. The low profile makes them suitable for 1U-high applications. The family of seven output modules are flexible, satisfying any output requirement from 1.5 Vdc through 58 Vdc, and up to 240 W/50 A. Outputs can be tied in parallel for more power or in series for higher voltages. Each output module offers status and control functions, including remote sense, remote on/off, trim, power good, and wireless current sharing. The supplies feature universal ac input with active power-factor correction, up to eight isolated and floating outputs, high-efficiency operation up to 90 percent, and reduced heat dissipation for improved system reliability.

The flexibility of the new products allow eight components (one front-end and seven output modules) to deliver an unlimited combination of outputs from 200 W to 400 W, reducing procurement costs and inventory liabilities. Pricing starts at $242 for a 400 W single-output supply in 100-piece quantities.
