Excelsys 1200W Configurable Power Supply Is Only 1U High

March 06, 2007 by Jeff Shepard

Excelsys Technologies announced the Xcite 1200W modular power supply. Just 1U high and 260mm x 127mm, the Xcite boasts what the company claims is industry leading 15W/in2 power density with up to 90% efficiency and a "plug and play" architecture which allows users to configure a custom power solution in less than 5 minutes.

A combination of low loss technologies, field-proven planar magnetics and a high degree of surface mount assembly ensures ultra-high efficiency and reduces system thermal load by more than 50% over conventional designs. The Xcite chassis may be populated with up to 6 Excelsys powerMods (configurable dc output modules) providing output power from 400 to 1200W. All possible configurations are fully safety agency approved. Nominal output voltages of 2.5, 5, 12, 24 and 48Vdc are available and are user adjustable for custom applications. All output are fully isolated and may be connected in series or parallel as required. A separate 5Vdc "standby" voltage is also provide for system administrators and front panel LED’s provide visual system status checks.

Gary Duffy, Managing Director of Excelsys Technologies, commented, "There is a very large and continually growing market for 1U power supplies. The Excelsys Xcite not only fits this industry standard envelope but offers unparalleled operational efficiency and user convenience."

The Excelsys Xcite has a universal input range, 85-264Vac, over voltage protection and will operate at full load up to 50°C. Typical applications include, industrial control systems, instrumentation, n+1 and redundant power systems, test and measurement equipment, printing, telecomms and IT power.
