Eltek Valere Releases Wide AC Input Range Rectifier for High-Power Telecom Applications
Eltek Valere announced the X5000A4, a 100A, high-efficiency ac-dc power rectifier with wide ac input range, allowing it to be used in all high-power telecommunications applications. With an input range of 208 to 480Vac, a carrier can standardize on the X5000A4 for all of its central office, mobile switching center, and datacenter applications.
The X5000A4 is a central component in Eltek Valere’s Scalable Power System, the company’s flagship offering for high-power applications. The company claims that its Scalable Power System can be configured with any of its X5000 family of rectifiers for up to 10,000 A of power in half the footprint of conventional power systems. This universal rectifier provides the high power levels needed for IPTV, metro Ethernet, voice over IP and other next-generation applications while simplifying system engineering and installation, streamlining inventory management, and speeding deployment schedules.
The X5000A4 is a three-phase rectifier with 93% efficiency. It delivers 5,800W in a 2RU-high form factor for a power density of 20W per cubic inch. In addition to increased safety, the rectifier’s wide input range is said to offer a significant operational advantage as it frees carriers from stocking multiple rectifiers for their CO applications.
The Scalable Power System is designed around half-width (12") power bays taking up half the floor space of a traditional power enclosure, and each power bay can support up to 15 X5000 rectifiers. This ultra-dense power bay features system distribution cabinets that are an extra-wide 36", allowing for dramatically simplified battery and load wiring. The distribution cabinet also has a modular design to quickly accept up to 48 distribution attachments, giving carriers the ability to simply mix and match fuses and circuit breakers for each installation. It has a large turning area for output cabling and is designed to support top or bottom cable entry. The X5000A4 has an I2C communications bus for programming, horizontal airflow, internal fans and front-panel LED indicators for monitoring. The rectifier is hot-pluggable.
The X5000A4 rectifier works with the company’s XC family of controllers to provide advanced local interfaces and remote management options. Interfaces are available to support RS232, wireline and wireless modems, and full Ethernet interfaces from TCP/IP, Web, UDP, SNMP, and Telnet. The XC system controllers simplify installation time with pre-configured settings and improve system reliability with advanced battery management and control capabilities.
Several large U.S. carriers have approved the Scalable Power System for use. The X5000A4 rectifier is generally available in August 2007.
