Elcon Introduces MINIPAK Power Connector

New Products Mar 27, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Elcon Products International Co. (Fremont, CA), a member of the Tyco Electronics Group (Bermuda), announced the release of MINIPAK, a low-profile, high-density board-to-board power connector that measures 3.7 inches long and has a total dc output of up to 360A. The product is suitable for use in front hot-swappable power supply applications that need power but are constrained in space. MINIPAK may also be used to design power supplies of 800W or more for CompactPCI, VME and other industry standard systems.

MINIPAK has three ac input power contacts, 24 signal contacts, and dc output contacts for multiple voltage levels. Current ratings are 45A for each ac input contact, 2A for each signal contact, and a total output of more than 300A for the dc output contacts. The device uses Elcon's crown contact technology. Other features include three levels of sequencing to allow ac premate/ground and warm-swap capability, a 5mm recess on the ac socket contacts for safety, eye-of-the-needle compliant press-fit termination on the backplane side, and tin-lead plated PCB tails on the power supply side.

MINIPAK has been evaluated UL and complies with the US standard UL1977 and with the Canadian standard CSA C22.2 No. 182.3-M1987. Volume pricing is approximately $12 per mated pair, and is currently available.
