Chip Resistors with Overload Rating Twice the Standard

October 13, 2016 by Power Pulse1595211359

The new LVM series of low value metal element chip resistors from Ohmite to be launched at electronica 2016 in Munich, Germany, is a response to the growing number of current sense applications and, of specific interest, designers will be impressed that Ohmite have developed a current sense resistor with an exceptional overload rating of 5-times rated power for 5 seconds which is twice the industry standard for most SMD chips.

The new LVM series will also fill in size gaps and appeal to the more cost conscious projects. Designed to pick up from where Ohmite’s MCS series ends by offering more values and more common sizes, the LVM has values ranging from 10-milliOhms to 100-milliOhms and TCR values are down to 50ppm.

The industry standard sizes of 0603, 1206, and 2512 will be offered in wattage rating of 1/8, 1/2 and 1 Watt respectively. When looking at small chips, overload ratings can be quite low but the new LVM series from Ohmite creates new boundaries in that respect.
