Belling Presents New BL0951 Measurement IC

October 01, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Shanghai Belling Co. Ltd. (China) announced the release of its BL0951 fault-tolerant, electrical energy measurement IC that is designed for use with two-wire distribution systems. The BL0951 incorporates a fault-detection scheme that both warns of fault conditions and allows the product to continue accurate billing during a fault event.

Supporting 50Hz to 60Hz, the IC has a single 5V supply, 15mW power, a low-cost CMOS process and <0.1% error over a dynamic range of 500 to 1. The high-frequency output CF is intended for calibration and supplies instantaneous real power data. Continuous monitoring of the phase and neutral current allows fault detection in two-wire distribution systems. The device's two logic outputs can be used to indicate a potential misconnection or fault condition. The PGA in the current channel allows the use of small values of shunt and load resistance.

The BL0951 is available in 24-lead DIP and SSOP packages.
