AVX Introduces W2H/W3H Feedthrough Capacitors

December 11, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

AVX Corp.’s (Myrtle Beach, SC) Advanced Product Group introduced a new series of miniature ceramic chip components that combine capacitor and inductor elements in a single distributed constant circuit filter. Designated the W2H/W3H Series, the surface-mountable chip filters are the latest addition to AVX’s series of integrated passive components for EMI noise suppression in high-speed applications.

"AVX’s W2H/W3H Series of feedthrough capacitors feature a unique construction that allows for series interconnect while also yielding extremely low inductance in high-speed applications,” said Ron Demcko, AVX applications engineering manager. “These AVX chips offer excellent decoupling capabilities for all high di/dt environments while providing significant noise reduction in digital circuits up to nearly 5GHz.”

Other applications for the EMI filter chips include PA decoupling, dc/dc converters, power supervisory circuits, digital to RF filtering, telecommunications, portable electronics and automotive functions. Offered in 0805 and 0612 case sizes, the W2H/W3H Series of EMI filters are available in 25V, 50V and 100V voltage ratings with capacitance ratings ranging from 22pF to 100,000pF. Current ratings range from 0.5A to 5A. Available in NP0 and X7R dielectrics, the capacitors feature a standard operating temperature range of -55 to +125 degrees C. Available in standard tape-and-reel packaging, the W2H/W3H Series filters are compatible with high-speed automated assembly equipment and wave and re-flow soldering methods.

Pricing for the W2H/W3H Series ranges from $0.10 to $0.15 in OEM quantities, with lead times from stock to 10 weeks. Sample kits are now available.
