AVX Introduces the SE Series of MLC Capacitors

June 24, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

AVX Corp. (Myrtle Beach, SC) has introduced the SE Series MLC capacitors, designed for input and output filtering in switch-mode power supplies. Offered in X7R dielectric, these SMPS capacitors are radial-leaded and conformally coated. AVX claims that the SE Series’ specifications compare favorably to high CV ranges offered by other suppliers in the Y5U dielectric.

The SE Series capacitors are primarily used in input/output filters of high-power and high-voltage power supplies as well as in bus filters and dc snubbers for high-power inverters and other high-current applications. The SE Series capacitors are available in five standard sizes with voltage ratings of 25Vdc, 50Vdc and 100Vdc. Their capacitance values range from 0.33µF to 39µF. The capacitors have an operating temperature range of -55 to 125 degrees C.

“The SE Series capacitors offer a commercially viable, low-cost part, specifically designed for high-current applications,” said Bob Obuszewski, AVX product manager. “They provide design engineers with improved volumetric efficiency in a smaller package size.”

The typical lead time for the SE Series MLC capacitors is stock to 12 weeks. The capacitors are available in quantities of 1,000 with prices ranging from $0.78 to $6.15, depending on size and value.
