Astec Power Debuts HPS15 Front-End Power Sources

May 19, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Astec Power (Carlsbad, CA) announced the addition of the HPS15 model to its high-efficiency series of bulk front-end switching power supplies. Weighing in at 6.2W/in³, each HPS15 can deliver 1,500W of output power at 85 percent efficiency. A rack of four units can deliver a full 6,000W of clean bulk dc power from just a little under 1,500in³. The HPS Series is suitable for network, telecom, manufacturing and industrial equipment applications.

The HPS15 features a wide ac-input range (108Vav to 264Vac), with power-factor correction (typically >0.98) that meets EN61000-3-2 requirements for input-current harmonic content. Each module has over-voltage and overload protection on all outputs, active inrush-current limiting circuitry, remote-sense capability on the main (bulk) output, and an internal OR-ing device. Standard features also include a built-in 25W 5V standby supply, forced current sharing between modules operating in parallel, and remote programmability (margining) of the main output voltage.

Available in nine different standard output voltages that cover the span of 24Vdc to 60Vdc, the HPS family of power supply modules comply with worldwide safety and performance standards and have UL, CSA, CE, IEC, TUV and CB approvals. Designed to meet FCC Class B and CISPR22 Level B conducted and radiated emissions, the HPS modules also meet all industry-standard noise and immunity requirements.

Available now, pricing starts at $543 per HPS15 module and $215 per basic HPR3 rack.
