APT Intros New Power Modules in SP6-P Package

October 14, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Advanced Power Technology Inc. (APT, Bend, OR) announced a new product line of standard power modules in the 62 mm x 108 mm SP6-P low-profile package for high-frequency operation and applications where size and particularly thickness is a concern. The low 12 mm profile offers minimum parasitic inductance, solderable pins for easy mounting to a top printed circuit board and a base plate for good heat spreading and thermal resistance.

The SP6-P modules are offered with FREDFETs for the phase leg modules, standard MOSFETs for the dual common-source devices, and Coolmos™, NPT, PT and TRENCH IGBTs. Current ratings range from 13 A to 100 A at Tc = 80 °C for voltages in the range of 75 V to 1,200 V for MOSFET, FREDFET and CoolMOS products. Current ratings range from 40 A to 90 A at Tc = 80 °C for voltages in the range of 600 V to 1,700 V for IGBT modules.

The use of the latest-generation APT PowerMOS 7® MOSFETs, FREDFETs and PT IGBTs allows operating in hard switching mode in the range of 100 kHz to 200 kHz, and at higher frequencies in resonant mode. For lower frequency applications, NPT and Trench IGBTs are a preferred choice. Principle applications for this extended family are motor control, UPSs, power supplies, welding converters and solid-state relays for three-phase mains.

Samples are available now. Lead time for 10,000-unit quantities is 8 to 12 weeks. Pricing for quantities of 1,000 to 2,500 pieces ranges from $62.37 to $115.34.
