Analog Devices Debuts ADP3408 Power System IC

November 26, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Analog Devices Inc. (Wilmington, MA) announced the new ADP3408, a multi-function power system IC optimized for GSM/DCS/PCS handsets. The power system IC integrates six LDOs, one to power each of the critical GSM sub-blocks.

On-board sophisticated controls are user-configurable for power-up during battery charging, keypad interface and RTC alarm. The charge circuit maintains low-current charging during the initial charge phase and provides an end-of-charge signal when a lithium-ion battery is fully charged. Two options allow for core LDO output voltages of 2.5V or 1.8V.

The LDOs are designed with anyCAP technology, allowing any type of capacitor to be used at the output of the circuit.

Fully specified for operation from -20 to +85 degrees C, and housed in either a narrow-body 28-lead TSSOP, or 5mm x 5mm, 32-lead CSP, the ADP3408 is priced at $3.84 in 1,000-piece quantities.
