Analog Devices Debuts ADN2830 Power Controller

May 28, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Analog Devices Inc. (Norwood, MA) introduced its new ADN2830 power controller, which reduces parts count, PCB area and system costs without sacrificing any functionality. The ADN2830 is suitable for CW lasers used in external modulator applications as well as erbium-doped fiber amplifier applications for which the required bias current may be up to 800mA.

The ADN2830 can measure a CW laser's average power and can adjust the bias current to maintain the required average optical power specifications at a constant value determined during initial factory set-up. The ADN2830 is also capable of driving CW lasers that demand a bias current ranging from 4mA to 200mA. For those lasers requiring higher bias currents, design engineers can use additional ADN2830 devices running in parallel.

The ADN2830 operates at 5V within a temperature range of -40 to +85 degrees C. The ADN2830 is available in a 5mm x 5mm, 32-lead, LFCSP package and is priced at $9.10 per unit in 1,000-piece quantities. The product will be in full production in June 2002.
