40: Dynamic Loop Compensation Enables 25% Higher POL Current

The new BMR464-50A from Ericsson Power Modules is a third-generation digital point-of-load (POL) regulator that features Dynamic Loop Compensation (DLC) and also extends output current up by 25% to 50A from the 40A offered by the BMR464-40A (and an increase in high power density to 32.61W/cm³ (534W/in³)), yet it comes in a fully compatible footprint. The product also features a full set of PMBus commands enabling systems architects to fully monitor and dynamically control the energy delivered to strategic components, such as processors, FPGAs and ASICs, down to a very low and highly economical level. more

39: Mixed-Signal MCU for Digitally-Controlled Power Supplies

Sanken Electric Co., Ltd. has developed a mixed-signal microcontroller unit (MCU), the MD6602, that is targeted for use in digitally-controlled power supplies and other applications. Samples of the new MCU are available for shipment beginning mid-October 2014 at 500 yen. The production of new MCU will start in March 2015 and 50,000 pieces per month will be shipped initially. more

38: Current-Sensing Solution Measures up to 100A with no Shunt Resistor

By measuring the voltage drop across a copper track on a PCB, a new reference design board from ams AG can linearly measure currents up to 100A to an accuracy of +/1%. The development of the new technique, which uses the ams AS8510 data-acquisition front end, enables designers of battery management systems (BMS) to reduce bill-of-materials cost by eliminating the precision shunt resistor normally used in current-sensing applications. A precision resistor with low temperature drift can typically cost as much as $1.50 in volume. more

37: Intersil Introduces Company's First High-Voltage Power Module

Intersil Corporation today announced the ISL8216M 80-V, 4-A non-isolated dc-dc step-down power module. This integrated and simple-to-use module solution marks Intersil's entrance into high-voltage infrastructure and industrial applications. The ISL8216M power module provides a complete power supply in a package that can be used across multiple applications from telecom and network infrastructure to factory test equipment with minimal design effort, speeding time to market. more

36: 50A Digitally-Controlled POLs feature PMBus

Murata has announced the OKDx-T/50 series of 50-Amp digitally-controlled point-of-load (POL) dc-dc converters from Murata Power Solutions. These converters, adding to Murata's Okami range of non-isolated converters, are capable of delivering 50A / 165W from a module measuring only 30.85 x 20.0 x 8.2 mm. Available in three different package formats, through-hole, single-in-line, and surface-mount, the converters can be configured and monitored using industry-standard PMBusâ„¢ commands. more

35: Power Block with Exposed Top Delivers Superior Efficiency for DC-DCs

International Rectifier Corp. (IR) today announced the expansion of the power block family of devices with the introduction of the IRFHE4250D FastIRFETâ„¢ dual power MOSFET that reduces power losses by more than 5% at 25A compared to best-in-class conventional power block devices. The new 25V device is targeted at 12V-input dc-dc synchronous buck applications including advanced telecom and netcom equipment, servers, graphic cards, desktop, Ultra book and notebook computers. more

34: 10W DC-DC Converters with 4:1 Input Range

Aimtec, Inc. announces the new AM10EW-NZ series. This 10-Watt dc-dc converter operates with an ultra-wide input of 40- to 160-Vdc (4:1) and is housed in a 2x1 DIP package. This new series provides input-to-output isolation of 1500Vdc, continuous short circuit protection, over voltage protection and an operating temperature range of -40 to +85 degrees C. Standard output voltages of 5-, 12-, 15-, and 24-Vdc are offered. more

33: Dual IGBT Gate Driver also Targets SiC MOSFETs

IXYS Integrated Circuits Division (ICD), Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of IXYS Corporation announced the availability of the IX2204b dual IGBT gate driver. The IX2204 features two high current outputs, each capable of sourcing 2A and sinking 4A. Manufactured on IXYS ICD's advanced BCDMOS Silicon on Insulator (SOI) process, the IX2204 outputs have a wide operation voltage range of -10V to +26V. The negative gate drive capability can be used to insure the turn-off of high power IGBTs. The outputs can be paralleled for IGBT gates that require higher drive current. more

32: IDT Claims Industry's First Single-chip 5V Wireless Power Transmitter Solution

Integrated Device Technology, Inc. (IDT®) today announced the industry's first Qi-compliant single-chip wireless power transmitter solution supporting a 5V input. The highly-integrated solution enables the development of USB-powered wireless charging bases with 75% fewer ICs than competing solutions. IDT's transmitter solution is ideal for use in wireless charging systems that seek to take advantage of a universal power port while minimizing system complexity and physical size. more
