Generally speaking, which will turn off or on faster? An IGBT or a MOSFET?

I know there are pros to both. But I'm leaning toward an IGBT for a project.

 

MOSFET are faster then there are SiC mosfets that are faster yet and now GAN fets that are really fast.

What voltage and current do you want to switch?

 

Yes, definitely depends on what kind of MOSFET you're implementing. I'm partial to SiC MOSFETs in my designs at the moment.

 

What I have for the MOSFET

Tdon: 10% of gate voltage to 90% of collector voltage

Tr: 90% to 10% of collector voltage

Tdoff: 90% of gate voltage to 10% of collector voltage

Tf: 10% to 90% of collector voltage

 

Quick question –

would i be able to estimate the switching parameters of an IGBT using collector voltage?

This is the formula I will always remember for this exact need.

Vce = Vcc - IcRc

No but by looking at the data sheet and current and voltage and drive conditions and .....
What part number are you looking at?

 

The choice between using an IGBT or MOSFET for a particular application depends on the specific requirements and characteristics of the circuit and application in question. If the application requires high switching speed and low on-state resistance, a MOSFET would be the better choice. If the application requires higher power handling capability, an IGBT would be the better choice, despite its slower switching speeds.
