Tyco and Midtronics Join on Battery Monitoring System

March 22, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Tyco Electronics Power Systems Inc. (Dallas, TX) and Midtronics Inc. (Long Beach, CA) announced an agreement that includes licensing Midtronics’ patented battery conductance monitoring technology and developing a telecom battery monitoring system for telecom service providers as a means to ensure network integrity. The battery monitoring system will be integrated into Tyco Electronics’ GALAXY power monitoring system.

By integrating the battery monitoring system into Tyco Electronics’ GALAXY Manager remote monitoring and control software, users will be able to view conductance values on-demand or in user-defined intervals from anywhere with web access. This approach provides the a cost-effective solution for customers in new and retrofit applications. Because it uses the existing GALAXY DC Power System internal communication bus, the need for a stand-alone hardware platform to collect and process conductance from multiple battery strings is eliminated.

The development on the project is expected to begin immediately, with product availability currently slated for June.
