Texas Instruments Joins Leadership of HomePlug Powerline Alliance

November 13, 2006 by Jeff Shepard

The HomePlug® Powerline Alliance announced that Texas Instruments Inc. (TI) has joined the HomePlug Implementers' Forum Board of Directors. With the addition of TI, the HomePlug Powerline Alliance membership has rapidly increased from 43 members to 70 companies in the last year.

"Texas Instruments will significantly contribute to HomePlug's efforts to simplify the consumer experience as it relates to multi-media and rich content distribution within the evolving digital home," said Mathew Theall of Intel Corp., who also serves as President of the HomePlug Powerline Alliance. "As a leading supplier to consumer electronics industry, TI understands the importance of HomePlug's open-standards approach to powerline technologies, and their membership will serve as a key factor in shaping the Alliance for the future."

The addition of TI to the Alliance's leadership team is expected to have a tremendous impact on the extended capabilities of in-home consumer applications, as the lines of distinction between consumer electronics, entertainment and computing continue to blur. As a member of the Board of Directors, TI will play a significant role in further developing HomePlug standards, products and initiatives. HomePlug now features the top three worldwide semiconductor companies with Intel, Samsung and Texas Instruments on its board of directors.

The HomePlug Alliance has several focus areas: HomePlug 1.0 + AV (in-home connectivity, including digital home and consumer electronics applications); HomePlug BPL (to-the-home, Broadband-over-Powerline applications); and HomePlug Command and Control (Home Automation applications).
