STMicro, Philips, Motorola Launch R&D Center

March 10, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

The Crolles2 Alliance (France), consisting of STMicroelectronics Inc. (Geneva, Switzerland), Royal Philips Electronics (Eindhoven, the Netherlands) and Motorola Inc. (Austin, TX), has opened its research and development center near Grenoble, France. The collaboration is dedicated to designing the next wave of nanoelectronics and semiconductor manufacturing on 300mm silicon wafers.

The joint research and development center will focus on specific technologies at the forefront of semiconductor research and development: baseline CMOS processing, embedded memories (static, dynamic and magnetic RAM), SOI, analog CMOS, advanced process modules, advanced copper interconnect, low-power designs and RF capabilities. Starting at 90nm, the alliance will further develop CMOS processes at 65nm, 45nm and, ultimately, the 32nm node.
