STM to Close Rancho Bernardo Plant

October 24, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

STMicroelectronics (Geneva) announced that it plans to close its Rancho Bernardo, CA, 6in front-end wafer-fabrication production and transfer the fab's products, processes and equipment to ST's manufacturing facilities in Carrollton, TX, and Singapore.

The move is targeted for completion near the end of the first-quarter 2002 and affects approximately 330 employees in Rancho Bernardo, near San Diego. ST's nearby design and research and development operations, which employ about 75 people, are unaffected by the

decision.
