STMicroelectronics and SpaceBridge to Develop ICs

January 08, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

STMicroelectronics Inc. (STM, Geneva, Switzerland) announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with SpaceBridge Semiconductor to develop a family of highly integrated, broadband, wireless modem chips and low-cost, integrated, two-way, set-top box solutions, targeted to provide broadband wireless access, HDTV and interactive television capability at speeds up to 155Mbps.

The jointly developed technology will allow providers to rapidly deploy high-capacity broadband, set-top box solutions, enabling broadband services such as Internet, voice, data and streaming video for business, home office and high-end residential applications. STM and SpaceBridge will collaborate on the design and development of the new chip set family, which will be manufactured by STM and jointly marketed by both SpaceBridge and STM.
