Solectria Announces Strategic Move Toward EV Componentry

October 17, 1999 by Jeff Shepard

Solectria Corp. (Wilmington, MA) announced a strategic move in direction toward the research, development and production of components for use in hybrid and electric vehicles, as well as for the distributed generation of electric power.

“In 1991, Solectria pioneered the introduction of electric vehicles because we saw the need for them, and because no major automakers would take the initiative,” stated James Worden, CEO of Solectria. “Now that car, truck and bus companies are producing electric and hybrid vehicles, we see tremendous opportunity in supporting their efforts through the sale of our proprietary technologies for power electronics, such as inverters, dc/dc converters, motors and battery chargers, as well as gearboxes and other components.”
